BARE ESSENTIALS
Bare Essentials is a duo of Audun Waage on trumpet and Edward Ware on drums/composition.
Drawing its inspiration equally from the etchings of Goya, Rembrandt et. al., the linear expression of harmony heard in Bach’s composition for solo instruments and the spiritual immediacy and abstract melodicism of West African drumming, Bare Essentials utilizes precise compositional forms as portals into sonic worlds created in the heat of the moment.
A contemporary extension of the catalyst found in the work of artists such as Dewey Redman/Ed Blackwell, Max Roach/Dizzy Gillespie, Jack DeJohnette/David Murry, Barte Essentials takes listeners on a unique sonic journey with every concert.

TIME
there is a different kind of time its a cleansing for the mind it has a multitude of function not just a single line
it’s bendable, it’s flexible it folds around dimensions beyond our sense of self
it permeates existence
it doesn’t help to try to freeze it to put it in a frame its nature is in movement intrinsic quality is change
though it lives without a colour it has character and feeling ponderous or fleeting our journey through it gives it meaning
we feel it inside us this pulsing thread of time in blood, heart, veins and brain
it has no need to judge for loss or gain impartial to our human lives lived just as briefly as a passing shadow in the rain
time in cycles, waves, spirals time and time and time again
we think of it as history this process that we’re in we like to break it into pieces then and now and where and when
but time defies these efforts at containment it was here before we started and it’ll be here when we’re gone
it’s reach is far beyond mere comprehension
plunging into present tense experience of being - here
will help to blend us more firmly with its weave allow us in to find a deeper peace inside this world of physicality
where time shifts and changes matter and challenges our sense of ease
